HEAVY DUTY CHARGER EPL10200

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INTRODUCTION

IMPORTANT BEFORE installing this charger, or doing any work on it, please read these instructions carefully, since some aspects are different to the Standard EPL3000 Battery Chargers.

1. INITIAL INSPECTION.

a) Check that the package contains the correct type of equipment you have ordered, i.e. the heavy duty battery charger, abbreviated to ‘‘HDBC’’ on the packaging.

b) Check that the envelope containing these instructions also contains a battery link. (A security screwdriver for this panel was supplied with the control panel. However, if you are using this charger with a non-EPL type control panel, please contact the manufacturers to obtain a screwdriver.)

d) Undo the security screw on the side of the panel using only the security screwdriver provided, open the panel and refit the screw into the thread.

e) Inspect the interior of the panel to ensure that the main printed circuit board, transformer and heatsink are firmly mounted to the back box.

f) The panel has been fully tested prior to despatch, so if any of the following tests do not give the correct result, please check your wiring etc. first, and if nothing wrong can be found, please contact us on the number below for further advice.

If the boards are loose or otherwise damaged report this to the manufacturers on 01403 864 676.

2. INITIAL TESTING.

a) Connect the 2 x 12V 17.2AH batteries in series using the link provided, and then connect the +ve terminal to the RED battery connector, and the -ve terminal to the BLACK battery connector.

b) The ‘‘Mains Supply Failure’’ and ‘‘Charger Fault’’ Visual Indicators, and the Audible Fault Indicator should operate. The Charger Fault indicator operates in this mode since the charger is not operating normally when the mains has failed.

c) Connect mains to the fused mains input connector, mounted on the left hand side of the enclosure, and with the supply on only the ‘‘Mains Supply On’’ Visual Indicator should operate. If the ‘‘Charger Fault’’ Visual Indicator remains on, this may be due battery voltage being out of the normal range. This Visual Indicator should extinguish when the battery is nearing full charge.

d) If the charger fault persists, check the voltage across the battery terminals, which should be 27.6, + or - 1v. If this is so, then adjust VR4 if D10 is lit, or VR5 if D11 is lit, until they extinguish. If the voltage is outside the above range, see e) overleaf.

e) Disconnect the battery, and check that the ‘‘Battery Fault’’ Visual Indicator is lit. Check the voltage output to the battery, and adjust VR2 if necessary to 27.6. A calibrated digital multimeter will be necessary for this.

f) The mains supply may now be disconnected, the batteries removed and the charger mounted after removing relevant knockouts.

g) FUSES -these are rated as follows - F1 = 2 AMP, F2 = 6.3 AMP, F3 = 5 AMP.

h) CONNECTIONS TO EPL2000 SERIES PANELS ONLY. If connecting to this type of panel, the following connections should be made:-

EPL10100 FUNCTION SUGGESTED COLOUR CODE EPL2000/2130

TBB-1

0V BLACK

TB4-A

-2

FAULT LINE PINK OR YELLOW

-E

-3

+27.6V GEN SUPPLY RED

-B

Note that if D5 & D6 have been removed from the fire alarm panel, then a strap will be required between TB4-B and TB4-D, in order that the sounder power rail is connected.

BATTERY CHARGER INTERNAL FAULT SOUNDER.

If the charger is close to the EPL2000 panel, then the Fault Sounder Isolating Plug PLC may be removed. If this is not the case, then Plug PLC must not be removed, so that attention will be brought to any fault on the charger.

It is important that the Installation Card supplied with this equipment is completed and posted as soon as the equipment is installed. This will ensure that both user and installer are kept informed of equipment modifications etc.
