SHUTDOWN INTERFACE EPL14000 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Shutdown Interface Unit type EPL14000 increases the versatility of Fire Alarm panels with limited current/voltage handling ability by using ‘‘volt-free’’ contacts in the control panel to control the heavy duty relays in the EPL14000 unit.

As well as increased power handling the action of a single controlling pair of contacts is extended to 3 sets of change over contacts and a set of normally closed contacts. Two such circuits are contained within the shutdown unit and can be used independently to control two separate initiations such as the Alert and Evacuate status of a Fire Alarm panel.

In order that the controlling circuits can be tested without the Interface unit shutting down its control circuits, an isolation/lockout facility is provided by keyswitch operation on the front panel. To ensure that the key is not inadvertently left in the ‘‘isolated’’ state the unit incorporates an internal alarm sounder and flashing LEDs which are switched on whenever the Interface unit is switched to isolate.

A further facility incorporated into the unit is the provision of a light duty relay which can be set to operate at either stage of ‘‘alarm’’ by the manual setting of a selection plug within the unit.

2 sets of changeover contacts are available from the relay.

Typical applications of the light duty relay are for alarm prompts or for the controlling of further shutdown systems.

SPECIFICATION

MECHANICAL

ELECTRICAL.

WIRING

Connect fire alarm panel Aux. contacts and supply lines to the EPL14000 unit as shown below and in drawing EPL14006.

All wiring to be 1.5mm2

Connection diagram

PROMPT CONNECTIONS

Connect Alarm Prompt (Gateway etc.) wiring to TBD to give desired output on Alarm.

The output is dependent on the position of the red selector plug. Placed in the S1 position, the prompt relay will only operate on a First Stage alarm. Placing the selector plug in the S2 position will only allow RLC to operate on a Second Stage alarm.

(If a single prompt alarm is required on both alarm stages, contact the factory for further information).

SHUTDOWN CIRCUIT WIRING

The contacts of the main shutdown relays RLA (stage 1) and RLB (stage 2) are connected to TBA and TBB respectivly.

Two sets of contacts on each relay have fuse protection in their ‘‘common’’ contact lines. As well as providing protection, these fuses are useful in providing the Installer/Maintenance engineer with a facility of isolating individual circuits without disconnecting wires.

NOTES

a) To stop operation of the Shutdown Unit without disturbing wiring, unplug the front panel connector PLA. (REMEMBER TO REPLACE PLA WHEN THE UNIT IS RETURNED TO SERVICE).

b) To test the system without bringing up the Prompt and/or other circuits connected to Relay C (TBD circuits), remove the selector plug. - (REMEMBER TO REPLACE THE PLUG IN ITS CORRECT POSITION WHEN THE UNIT IS RETURNED TO SERVICE).

c) If High & Low voltage circuits are connected to RLA/RLB, use contacts at opposite ends of relay/s and clearly mark cables.

d) If ‘‘normally closed’’ relay contacts are used for normal equipment operation (series trip coils etc.), it is strongly recommended that a note be affixed to the inside lid of the shutdown unit stating ‘‘Relay removal will cause ............. equipment shutdown’’.

e) If high voltage circuits are to be connected to the shutdown unit, affix the yellow mains warning label to the front panel.

f) If the shutdown unit is to operate on Both stages of alarm either, link TBC-1 to TBC-2 in the shutdown unit or, TB5C to TB5-F on the fire alarm panel.

g) Further shutdown units may be used in parallel to give additional relay availability or, two or more units can be used on each alarm stage to give a dedicated stage shutdown/isolate facility.

It is important that the Installation Card supplied with this equipment is completed and posted as soon as the equipment is installed. This will ensure that both user and installer are kept informed of equipment modifications etc.
