INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

READ THROUGH CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING ANY CONNECTIONS

The EPL17100 series of Autodialler Units are designed for use with the EPL1000 (Self contained), EPL2000 and 02130 type Fire Alarm Panels

FIXING

Remove the front panel screws with the security screwdriver provided with the Fire Alarm Panel, unplug the front panel cableform and remove the front panel by lifting it off its pin hinges and remove any internal transit packing and rechargeable lead acid battery.

Very carefully remove the front cover of the grey plastic SD1 Autodialler programme unit situated on the left hand side of the rear enclosure by depressing the two tabs in the bottom face and easing the lid off.

Note that there are cables connecting the SD1 front panel printed circuit board to the other printed circuit board in the rear enclosure.

Remove the three 3mm screws that hold the back case of the SD1 to the rear enclosure to expose the rear enclosure fixing point.

The autodialler unit can now be mounted to the wall with the 4 No. 8 woodscrews supplied, taking care not to damage the printed circuit boards.

Carefully reassemble the SD1 ensuring that no cables are crimped/crushed or put under stress in the process. Also avoid bending the pins on the printed circuit board.

CONNECTIONS.

When coupling up to a Fire Panel a separate earth link should be strapped between the earth points on each enclosure.

PROGRAMMING SD1 Unit (Short Form)

1. Remove all supplies to the unit (Mains and battery) if any have been made and unplug telephone connection at the wall jack.

2. Connect supplies, Battery then Mains. Display reads ‘‘PLEASE RE RECORD’’

3. Press ENT button for 6-8 seconds until display reads ‘‘READY’’ (if delayed from progressing to next operation, display reverts to ‘‘ON’’. To proceed press ENT again, holding down until display reads ‘‘READY’’.

4. Press ENT again and display will read ‘‘ENTER 1-3 or 0-C’’.

Notes: 1-3 are the 3 telephone numbers the dialler will dial when activated.

0-C are the messages the dialler will send. 0 is the common message at the start of each transmission, which will normally be the name/address of the premises.

A, B and C are the three discrete messages according to the 3 alarm states. In the fire protection application these are,

A - FIRE ANNOUNCEMENT

B - GENERAL SYSTEM FAULT WARNING

C - DIALLER SUPPLY FAULT WARNING

5. Press 1 - Display flashes ‘‘PHONE NUMBER 1’’

Enter in the number that you wish the dialler to call first followed by ENT

6. Repeat the operation in step 5 above for the second and third telephone numbers the dialler is to dial when activated.

To check your numbers press ENT again followed by 1 , 2 , or 3 . Display flashes alternatively ‘‘PHONE NUMBER *’’ followed by the number programmed in to that position.

7. Press ENT again and display reads ‘‘ENTER 1-3 or 0-C’’.

Press 0 , display reads ‘‘RECORD PHRASE 0’’

Press ENT and immediately record your general message keeping your mouth not more than 150mm from the front of the SD1 unit.

You only have 8 seconds for this message. It is important you speak clearly and give a precise location. Whilst you are recording, the display shows the time left.

To replay your message press ENT followed by 0 . The message will be replayed.

8. Press ENT again and display reads ‘‘ENTER 1-3 or 0-C’’.

Press A , display reads ‘‘RECORD PHRASE A’’.

Press ENT and immediately record your FIRE message keeping your mouth not more than 150mm from the front of the SD1 unit.

You only have 8 seconds for this message. It is better to keep the message short and repeat it rather than fill it with detail. Remember that it may be received by someone awoken from a deep sleep and they need time to comprehend. Whilst you are recording, the display shows the time left.

To replay your messages press A . The message will be replayed.

9. Repeat operation 8 above using the B button for the ‘‘Fire Alarm General Fault Message, and again using button C for the ‘‘Autodialler Supply Fault’’ message.

To replay your messages press A , B or C , the relevant message will be replayed.

10. When programming has been completed the display will revert again to show ‘‘ON’’

11. Remove the red link plug PL1 on the main control printed circuit board to enable the fire alarm condition to initiate calls by the autodialler.

12. Replace telephone wall jack.

 TESTING

1. ISOLATION

Insert the autodialler key into the keyswitch and switch to ISOLATE.

The DIALLER ISOLATED indicator will light and the internal sounder will operate. TBC-1 on the EPL17100 control pcb will go to +12 volts for use by security systems, etc., and this signal may be disabled by removal of link PL3.

Create a fault condition on the fire alarm panel by disconnecting a zone or sounder line for at least 10 seconds. This should cause the yellow SYSTEM FAULT indicator to illuminate. No other action on the autodialler should occur.

Ensure that the fire alarm panel fault is cleared.

Create a Fire condition on the fire alarm panel by activating a fire alarm call point. This should cause the autodialler red ALARM CONDITION indicator to illuminate. Keep the fire alarm zone in alarm for at least 10 seconds before re-setting the fire alarm panel. This should cause the autodialler red ALARM CONDITION indicator to extinguish.

No autodialler action should take place.

Ensure the fire alarm system is reset.

2. DIALLING

Following satisfactory results to the above tests, switch the keyswitch to NORMAL. The DIALLER ISOLATED indicator will extinguish and the internal sounder will silence. TBC-1 on the EPL17100 control pcb will go to 0 volts.

Create a fault condition on the fire alarm panel by disconnecting a zone or sounder line for at least 10 seconds. This should cause the yellow SYSTEM FAULT indicator to illuminate plus, the dialler will start up within a few seconds, sending its FAULT message to Telephone Number 1 (as previously programmed).

3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The message will be played over the telephone line followed by a short ‘beep’. This is the acknowledge request and the person receiving the call should acknowledge it within 2 seconds by pressing the ‘8’ button on their telephone for between ½ and 1½ seconds. (Certain older types of telephone may require a tone dial simulator for this, available from EVASAFE PRODUCTS LTD., FARREN COURT, COWFOLD, WEST SUSSEX, RH13 8BP, UK).

The dialler then sends a second ‘beep’ and the recipient of the call should then press ‘8’ again for between ½ and 1½ seconds. During testing the recipients should be asked to practise this procedure.

The dialler will then signal that the call has been successfully acknowledged by sending a four-note ‘musical’ tone. If the call has not been acknowledged the dialler will repeat the message for one minute after which the dialler abandons the call.

It then dials the next number. The sequence is repeated three times in sequence for all 3 telephone numbers. If no acknowledgement has been received then the dialler shuts down after the ninth call.

Ensure that the fire alarm panel fault is cleared.

Create a Fire condition on the fire alarm panel by activating a fire alarm call point. This should cause the autodialler red ALARM CONDITION indicator to illuminate plus, the Dialler will start up within a few seconds sending its FIRE message. Keep the fire alarm zone in alarm for at least 10 seconds before re-setting the fire alarm panel. This should cause the autodialler red ALARM CONDITION indicator to extinguish.

The call and acknowledgement procedure is exactly as for the fault message, only the verbal content of the message differs.

Ensure that the fire alarm panel is reset.

Temporarily remove the mains supply to the dialler unit. This should cause dialler to issue an ‘‘Autodialler System Supply Fault’’ call and message. Again the procedure is identical, only the verbal content of the message is different.

Telephone all the message recipients previously advised of the test and enquire of them that they received the messages in the correct order and that they were understood.

If everything is in order, advise the recipients that the equipment is now on-line.

Close the Autodialler front panel and secure with the security fixing screw.

Advise the Officer In Charge of the fire alarm system that the system is now on-line and give him/her a copy of the Operator Instruction Sheet supplied with these instructions.

It is important that the Installation Card supplied with this equipment is completed and posted as soon as the equipment is installed. This will ensure that both user and installer are kept informed of equipment modifications etc.
