INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS, EPL19000 DOOR HOLDER CONTROL UNIT

READ THROUGH CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION

Description

The Door Holder Control Unit as described below has been designed to operate a single Door Holder Electro-Magnet in accordance with British Standard BS 5839. The control unit when connected to a 110 or 220/240 mains supply provides a nominal 24vDC output that is connected to the door holder electro-magnet assembly via. normally closed contacts of a relay that is operated from a fire alarm sounder circuit.

• Input Voltage 110 or 220/240v A.C. (Factory set).
• Output Voltage 27v D.C. Off load.
• 22v D.C. On load.
• Sounder Line Relay - 24v D.C.
• Relay Contacts - 1 set change-over rated 110v D.C. 2A.

Operation

(Read in conjunction with Wiring Diagram below)

In the Normal (non alarmed) state the door holder control unit supplies a continuous 24vDC supply to the door holder which being energised will hold the door open.

When the fire alarm operates, its sounder lines are energised from the fire alarm control panel. This voltage operates a relay in the Door Holder Control unit changing over its contacts. The door holder 24v supply is therefore interrupted which demagnetises the door holder magnet and the door is released.

A bridge rectifier is incorporated in the door holder control unit sounder circuit which eliminates the need to observe sounder polarity of these connections to the unit and also allows the use of the unit on two stage reverse polarity sounder circuits.

NOTE: If connecting to a single stage system, the sounder line monitoring voltage must be checked. If this exceeds 5v.d.c., a diode type 1N4002 or equivalent must be connected between the positive sounder line and TBB2. This is to prevent relay operation by the monitoring voltage.

Connect as shown opposite.

Notes.

1. The EPL19010 control unit is only suitable for switching 1 door holder that requires continuous supply availability.

2. Other models are available to control more than 1 door holder and to operate from 12 and 50v.d.c. sounder lines.

Procedure

• 1. Open control unit by removing the 4 corner screws.
• 2. Remove any packing and installation fixings.
• 3. Fix unit to the wall having first removed any knockouts required for the mains, sounder and door holder wiring.
• (It is recommended that the control unit is placed in close proximity to the sounder wiring connection point to keep this wiring as short as possible.)
• 4. Connect the sounder wiring to TBB-1 and TBB-2 as shown in the wiring diagram. This wiring should be protected as specified in BS5839 (M.I.C.C., Pirelli FP200, or single PVC insulated cores within conduit or trunking.)
• 5. Connect door closer electro-magnet to TBB-4 (+ve) and TBB-7 (-ve). This wiring should also be protected from mechanical damage.
• 6. Connect the mains supply to TBA-L (LIVE), TBA-N (NEUTRAL) and TBA-E (EARTH). This supply should be fed from a Switched, Fused spur outlet.
• 7. Check all connections are correct and secure and that all swarf etc. has been removed from the the control unit before switching on the mains supply.

8. Test the system as follows.

• a) Check that the door holder electro-magnet supply measures approx. 22 volts D.C. across the electro-magnet terminals.
• b) Switch off the door holder control unit mains supply and ensure that the door holder de-energises and releases the door.
• c) Reinstate the door holder control unit supply and then operate the fire alarm system. Ensure that the electro-magnet de-energises and releases the door.
• 9. Ensure all units are closed up and fully protected.
• 10. Complete an entry in the fire alarm log to the effect that the door holder system has been fitted and tested for correct operation.

It is important that the Installation Card supplied with this equipment is completed and posted as soon as the equipment is installed. This will ensure that both user and installer are kept informed of equipment modifications etc.
