The EPL2130 Panel has been developed to meet the requirements of B.S. 5839 Part 4, 1988, for use in buildings that require up to 8 zones of detection. It will operate in one or two stage modes, and from 24v or 50v.d.c. supplies. It includes automatic alert to evacuate timing, remote reset, transmission of faults to a remote manned centre, one man walk test with automatic resetting, and lamp test. It has a head removal feature which allows call points and detectors to be wired in any order, without the removal of a detector head causing disconnection from other devices.
The Panel includes a 2 Stage Alarm Board EPL02150, which contains the control electronics of the Panel. It is supplied without any alert zone monitoring cards; these should be ordered separately as Board Zone Monitor , item code EPL02896. The panel is, however, supplied with an evacuate zone monitor card.
a) Undo front panel using special screwdriver provided.
b) Remove all plug-in cards and PL1 (plug to front panel)
c) Remove appropriate knock-out(s) and fit gland nut(s).
d) Remove all traces of swarf and mount panel to wall.
e) Check polarity of supply using multimeter.
f) Connect appropriate supply ensuring the supply fuse is removed.
NOTE: if using the EPL3000 battery charger, (type 2A or 2B) remove D2, located to the left of the heat sink.
(Note that sounders etc. must match supply voltage).
*** IMPORTANT. If a 50 volt Supply is to be used, Link 5 must be removed from the EPL02150 Two Stage Alarm Board. ***
a) Connect Circuit 1 sounders to TB5 terminals GH & JK using a ring circuit if possible. Connect the 1K0 End Of Line resistor across furthermost point if spur wired, or near centre of ring, if a ring circuit is used.
b) Connect Circuit 2 sounders to TB5 terminals MN & PR using a ring circuit if possible. Connect the 1K0 End Of Line resistor across furthermost point if spur wired, or near centre of ring, if a ring circuit is used.
c) Connect Zone inputs to TB1 (+ve connection) and TB2 (-ve connection.
d) Connect an EPL02198 across terminals A and B on TB3.
e) Ensure SW7 ``Single to Two Stage is ON.
f) Re-insert cards and PL1, plus appropriate number of alert zone monitoring cards.
g) Check for shorts, loose connections etc.
h) Fit 1A supply fuse - this should be of the alarm type.
j) Press RESET / LAMP TEST switch and check all front panel LEDs light.
k) Fit key to reset switch. Check fault indications by first shorting and then disconnecting end of line resistors on each zone.
l) Check alarm operation by activation of call points. This should include operation of the alarm silence between activation of the 2 zones- the alarms should re-sound upon activation of each zone. Ensure reset switch functions correctly. Ensure ``Resound switch functions after alarm ``Silence is operated.
m) Ensure sounders give the correct 2 tone sound - reverse connections if they do not.
n) Silence and Reset the panel and test the Walk Test facility. NOTE:- WALK TEST is only operative with the panel reset. Turn the key anticlockwise to enter Walk Test mode. Check that the internal sounder operates and the SYSTEM FAULT led lights.
Check that on triggering a detector the panel goes into alarm but automatically resets within 15 seconds. On switching to Walk Test the first reset will take longer.
p) Turn the key clockwise to leave test mode. Check that the internal sounder silences and the SYSTEM FAULT led extinguishes.
r) Remove key.
s) Identify zones on an adjacent chart.
a) Connect sounders for normal (above ground safe areas) to TB5-MN-PR and connect 1K0 resistor end of line.
b) Connect sounders in basements and any other areas of restricted access to the ``Evacuate terminals TB5, GH-JK. Connect 1K0 resistor at end of line.
Ring circuits should preferably be used with the resistors connected across the centre of the ring.
c) Connect the evacuate call point wires to TB3 A & B and connect an EPL02198 End of Line Device across the end of the line (red wire positive).
d) Connect Zone inputs to TB1 (+ve connection) and TB2 (-ve connection)
e) Ensure SW8 is set to ON.
f) Switch SW7 (Single to Two Stage) OFF.
g) Set switches SW1 to SW6 to set the time after which the panel will automatically switch from Stage 1 (Alert) to Stage 2 (Evacuate), as shown in the table below.

l) Repeater Panels are available as item code EPL4010/8. Instructions for connection of these are contained within the repeater panels.
Normally a multi-core cable requiring 11 cores for 8 zones is required, but a multiplex facility is available at extra cost, direct from the manufacturers, which may prove more economical for long cable runs, or where a fire rated cable is required, since only 3 cores are then needed. Further details of this are available from the manufacturers.
NOTE
Do not forget to connect an end of line device across terminals TB3A&B when no evacuate call point is used.
STAFF AWARENESS
When the system has been installed and tested to your satisfaction, ensure that any staff within the building know that the system is operational, and what the signals mean. Normally the Fire Precautions Officer (FPO) for the building will be responsible for routine testing of the system, and should be shown how to operate and reset the system, and, most important, who to contact in the event of faults.
EXTENSION OF ALARMS
If the system has any automatic fire detectors fitted, and the building is not permanently manned, then the fire alarm must be extended to a manned control point where appropriate action may be initiated.
EXTENSION OF FAULTS
If the building is not permanently manned, then the fault condition must be extended to a manned control point where appropriate action may be initiated.
